'Steamed food is good for you'
We have had a great day visiting the Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park.
The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line running for 11 miles along the border between East and West Sussex. It uses steam trains which operate between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead with intermediate stations at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote
The railway is managed and run largely by volunteers. Having preserved a number of steam trains even before the cessation of steam service on British mainline railways in 1968, today it has the largest collection (over 30) of steam locomotives in the UK after the National Railway Museum. The society also has a collection of almost 150 carriages and wagons, most of them pre 1939.
This collage shows the Golden Arrow Pullman dining train ..people were looking forward to their lunch and trip. The Pullman cars are named, Christine, Lilian and Fingall, the train recreates the fabulous Golden Arrow that once linked London and Paris with the style and panache which made it one of the most glamorous and famous trains in the world. On board you will enjoy the food and wine served to the standards of yesteryear.
A few years ago, when P and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary we took two friends with us and had the most memorable evening...wonderful dinner and the fun of the train journey! I also remember that our carriage was 'Lilian'.
Today we just enjoyed the atmosphere..there was a 90th Birthday family and friends group going on board....bet they had a ball!
The volunteers are marvellous people and all share one thing in common. STEAM!
