End Time

In many religions, philosophies and myths, there is an end time, an end of days, an apocalypse.

Why is that? What is it about the flaming end of the world that is attractive or useful to society?

If the end days were to come, how would it appear? and what would it be like...

(OK, OK, I know, this is way too serious a topic, especially when there is so much fun happening in the bliposhpere, but I was desperate to complete this weeks assignment!
