The stag in Bushy Park are definitely sensing that the time for the rutt is near. This morning I came across a few in a muddy pond. The smell is something else! Besides locking antlers as seen here, they urinate in the pond, then roll around in the mud - this behaviour is characteristic of the preparation for the rutt.
