Gateway to the Stairs

Sometimes, whilst walking, I spot something worth looking at, and I wonder, "how many people walk past that thing and don't even notice it?"
In this case it is on a main street in Bridport, an entrance gate to a chapel, well worn, and showing signs of decay. But, in that decay, just look at the textures that have become prominent as the years have passed by! It is hard to believe that when they were newly installed, these gates were beautifully smooth oak timber, hung with pride by their maker, who is probably long gone by now
