Getting ready for their hols
There were literally thousands of swallows out this evening, catching little insects in the late afternoon sun. They were really beautiful to watch as they kept taking off en masse and swopping low over the fields, then, almost as though choreographed, many would land on the overhead cables. Here they would enjoy a bit of a gossip and stretch their wings a bit, then off they would go again.
Their journey to Africa takes about 6 weeks, during which time they will average about 200 miles a day, stopping to roost every evening. I wonder if they have a chat about their journey and what they’ve seen that day.
