Hundertwasser toilets

We drove from Whagerei to Mangonui today, via Kawakawa and the world famous (apparently) Hundertwasser toilets.

To quote wikipedia: "The Hundertwasser Toilets is a public toilet located at 60 Gilles Street, the main street of the town Kawakawa on New Zealand's North Island. It is one of few toilet blocks seen as an international work of art and a tourist attraction in its own right. The toilet facility was designed by the reclusive expatriate Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who lived in Kawakawa from 1975 until his death in 2000, aged 71."

He apparently used to meditate on the toilet so Andy decided to have a go! The toilets are pretty amazing and are still used as public toilets today.

On the way to our final destination we stopped at Taupo Bay for a walk along a very wild but beautiful beach and we thought we might stay there overnight. We are trying out a new app on a NZ phone called Wikicamps NZ so found some great free camping spots ... unfortunately at Lake Taupo not Taupo Bay so we were a little confused by the reviews of camping near all the bars and amenities ... absolutely nothing there!

So drove up the road and camped on the seafront at Mangonui ... the weather is getting a little wild and windy up here.
