A Gentle Reminder

Dear Diary,

This morning I found this leaf on the step. My only maple tree is in the front yard and this was on my back step. There were no other maple leaves in the yard by the steps...just this one.

Nature is leaving her calling card to remind me that despite the fact that yesterday was near 90, Autumn is knocking on the front door. Already many of my bird friends have left for their migration to warmer climates. The garden is beginning to get that tell tale end of season look although a few late bloomers are making a valiant effort to keep summer going.

Seems as if all the world 'round here is taking a deep breath...a long sigh...a last burst of life before the dying season begins. The wheel of the year is always turning.

That old September feeling... of summer passing, vacation nearly done, obligations gathering, books and football in the air.... Another fall, another turned page: there was something of jubilee in that annual autumnal beginning, as if last year’s mistakes and failures had been wiped clean by summer. ~Wallace Stegner
