Able Seaman Simon TRUE STORY !

Able Seaman Simon was the ships cat,and was badly wounded in April 1949,when a Royal Navy Frigate [HMS Amethyst] was fired at without warning.
25 of the 183 crew including the captain were killed!.
Badly wounded and bleeding,Simon bolted in terror to the depths of the ship and stayed there for days,but after five days the battered cat patrolled the sick bay and curled up with the wounded.
He was promoted to able seaman for his 'cheering up' services and nominated for the PDSA Dickens medal for bravery.
When the ship arrived in Plymouth UK he became a newspaper celebrity.
He is buried at the PDSA Animal cemetry in Ilford.
