Boston
First sight of Boston as we stepped out of the South Station looking for our service car. At our hotel we met an internet writer friend of J who had travelled from the far west side of Massachusetts to meet us and drive us to both events. A delightfully eccentric travel writer, she drove us through the most horrendous traffic, manipulating an iPad on her lap, using it as a GPS, dodging and narrowly missing cars, pavements and lamp posts.
In spite of everything we arrived unscathed at the Wellesley book store to sign stock and chat with the staff before heading back through the rush hour to my speaking event at Porter Square Books in Cambridge. The owner had to move shelves to lay in more seats as the event space filled up. I'm amazed at just how much interest there is here in the Hebrides. The book which is the focus of my talks is The Lewis Man, which takes me back a couple of years from the book I've been promoting in the UK - Entry Island. But it's a fond trip down memory lane.
Tomorrow it's another early rise and a flight to Minneapolis, where it will all begin again.
