THOUGHTFUL - 1001 BLIPS CHALLENGE

It was our son and daughter-in-law's 23rd Wedding Anniversary last Sunday and they have now jetted off to Portugal leaving their two teenage children to look after us - I think we will give them a run for their money - we might even have a wild party when they go out on Saturday evening!

I wasn't at all surprised to see two lovely bouquets of flowers when we got to their house, as our son often buys his wife flowers - I'm not sure where that came from though, because Mr. HCB isn't really that way inclined. However, he often surprises me with a handful of runner beans or tomatoes and perhaps one or two courgettes, but flowers are not really his thing! Having said that, although flowers are good to look at, you can't eat them - well not many of them - so I guess there are positives and thoughtfulness on both sides.

I've already warned our grandchildren that they may have to be the subject of one or two blips - and it may cost me - so watch this space! Whatever happens, we will have fun and I'm sure their parents will too.

In this day and age, when so many marriages break down, it is good to see that some couples do stay the course - it's not always easy, but the benefits of a stable and loving home are worth working at. Just realised we have been married 46 years, twice as long as M & D - hope we continue to set them and our family a good example.

“We grow up opposing our parents
only to become like them enough
to oppose our children
who behave as we once did -
a reminder of how dreadful we were
toward those now vindicated grandparents.
And you thought God had no sense of humor.”
