Kenau and Ripperda

This statue is in front of the main train station in Haarlem and I pass it frequently without ever shooting it.

Today we're going to change that :-)

Kenau Simonsdochter Hasselaer and Wigbolt Ripperda were two famous fighters during the Eighty Year War. They protected the city of Haarlem for over 7 months against the Spanish army. In July 1573 the population of Haarlem had to surrender as the were exhausted.
