I Am The Breadman

Actually I am the bread woman!

If there is one thing I've missed since I've been back from Europe it's the fabulous bread. In Europe it's crispy and crusty on the outside, firm yet springy on the inside. Here, well, it's soft and stretchy and chewy on the outside, sweet, dense and doughy on the inside, and it lasts for weeks. It also leaves me hideously bloated.

Someone on one of the British expat forums mentioned that King Arthur flour over here is the closest she's found to English flour. So I went and bought a fresh bag of it today and a new jar of dried yeast and set my Breadman, (which has been gathering dust since spring), to work.

Here's the result. It went down really well tonight with a Navarin of Lamb and a nice glass of red. Looking forward to toast tomorrow morning!
