Getting up steam

As a brief change from the Folk Festival I was at the Shrewsbury Steam Rally, as another local media photo op - it's a bit like being Peter Parker but without the superpowers or glamorous location. Anyway, although not really a steam aficionado I was impressed by the many and varied steam machines on display, and on the move, and also the very tangible sense of obsessive passion in the operators and proud owners of said machines. I particularly liked the steam powered lorries, if only because one featured in the awkwardly non-pc (Peter Ustinov as a Chinese aristocrat, ouch) but quite good Disney movie One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing which I absolutely loved as a kid, and watched many times over. This splendid specimen is a Sentinel DG8, so it has extra local merit for coming from the Shrewsbury Sentinel works. After this I went back to the Folk Festival to cover the evening entertainments - it's a busy weekend for me and the camera. More steam here and more folk here
