River with Mountains
We started the day back on the west side of Glacier National Park, in Columbia Falls. It was sunny and cold for the second day in a row. We drove back into the park, and started with a short but superb walk at the Trail of the Cedars, into the woods along a stream.
On the way we saw our first American Dipper along the stream. It's a bird that is listed here as common, but which we had searched for in vain for the week we've been here. Dippers --only in the west--are the only truly aquatic songbird, swimming in swift streams to catch their food underwater. Unfortunately I can't blip the one we saw since my long lens was not at hand :(
We ate our picnic lunch and then drove further along the Going-to-the-Sun Road up to Logan Pass, over the Continental Divide. We had driven it several days ago, in thick clouds and rain. Views were much better today, including this one. At the top of the pass we took another walk, and then took the long drive back down out of the park to Columbia Falls.
