On the Road to Rainier

Despite having lived in the Pacific Northwest for many years, I had yet to visit Mt. Rainier National Park, our country's fifth national park, created in 1899. We are attending a wedding tomorrow that will take place just outside the park, so took the opportunity to arrive a day early and spend some time in the area.

As we approached the park, I was immediately captivated by the iridescent blues and greens in this small and unusual looking lake, dotted with tree stumps, its surface clear and still.

We continued on, driving amidst towering trees, the road twisting and turning, meandering through the forest. And then, at last, we reached a clearing, and there stood the mountain, majestic, unveiled, filling our view with its massive bulk and beauty.
