Over settlement of blue mussels.
Just what we don't want. These are the ropes that have been seeded with Greenshell mussels about 4 months ago, and since then the Blue mussels in the area have spawned, and we now have thousands of baby ones of them on the ropes.
Also, the Greenshell mussels haven't been put onto the ropes at the correct number, so there are lots of gaps, and this really makes a problem when the blue mussels settle on the ropes like, as there is plenty of space for them.
It means that we get very little return on the line of mussels, as when they finally harvest, a lot of it is Blue mussels which get dumped. Plus we have to put bouys on the lines to keep them afloat.
We tried for a fish but only got the little fish called Spotties. PJ (very kindly) filleted these out, and I now have to cook them. Craig was very sure we were going to get a BIG fish, but not to be! Maybe another go tomorrow.
