No rope.

We left the rope in the car. After all, the Aonach Eagach is not a climbing route, it is a sustained scramble.

Walking Scotland says;
Hard, exposed scrambling along the ridge between Am Bodach and Stob Coire Leith - experience and a good head for heights is required.

A barely adequate description in my opinion.

This is Davy, path finding. The drop to the right is about 1000ft. The drop to the left nearer 1250ft. You might bounce off a few sharp rocks before you stop at the bottom, but not many.

We climbed through that notch on the left hand side to stand on a tiny platform. The way down to the narrow path below was as steep and sharp as the way up, but we all did it. Some with aplomb and style, Davy for instance. Some with care and sloth like hesitation, me for instance. And some with bum sliding, shin chipping, grip of steel, self torturing fear. Poor Kevin, I doubt he'll be back.

The walk up is hard and steep and unrelenting. The ridge is amazing. Dramatic, impressive, awe inspiring, amazing. The walk off is a steep zig - zag stony path down into Glen Coe village. And the pub.

The day was definitely a success.

And I might well go back.
