newts, newts and more newts
Today we had to clear the "bug hotel" we'd made about 3 years ago to make way for some building work. Armed with bug catching gear and a big bucket to look at them poke them in, we cleared it. There were lots of big and small spiders (which i think escaped with all their legs...despite D picking them up and poking them to make them run faster), lots of slaters, lots of eggs from something, a few centipedes, a very jumpy tiny frog and lots of newts! We were intrigued as to why newts would be there - so we looked up what they eat. Invertebrates, worms... so that'll be why they'd set up home there then! C was most concerned that we'd destroyed their home, so we made them a new home so that they didn't become instant bird food.
