snowdrop
Galanthus elwesii the "giant" snowdrop hidden in amongst the Helleborus leaves is usually the first "traditional "snowdrop to bloom in Denver. The more uncommon fall blooming Galanthus are featured in this blog I wrote last fall http://www.botanicgardensblog.com/index.php/2009/11/13/autumn-blooms/
This year the winter blooming species are late due to the rather "arctic" winter we have had. This particular individual is blooming for its' first time in my new garden. I don't know why more gardeners don't plant more bulbs. They give so much enjoyment for so little work. Plant the bulbs in a spot you think they will like and often they will dazzle for decades. Soon there will be so many Crocus, Scilla, Corydalis, tulipa and other bulbs that it will be hard to chose who makes the blip
