Crichton Grounds
To reach the college where I'm studying, I walk or cycle through the grounds of the Crichton. This is 100 acres of parkland with the sandstone buildings of the former Crichton Royal Hospital, a psychiatric institution founded in 1838 by Elizabeth Crichton, a wealthy widow. The site now houses a business park, part of the University of Western Scotland, the Crichton Memorial Church, the Crichton Carbon Centre, the Easterbrook Hall and the Aston Hotel, as well as part of the Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
The gardens are a pleasure to walk through, and a good place for students to practise their photography!
