Schwartz Rounds

I was with a local hospital today supporting them in their first Round, they were great! The rounds are named after Kenneth Schwartz, a Boston based lawyer who died of lung cancer in his 40's. Before he died he wrote movingly of the positive impact of receiving compassionate care and described how it made the 'unbearable, bearable' and at the same time he recognised the emotional cost to staff this involves. By creating safe spaces for reflection, Schwartz rounds give staff the opportunity to share some of the emotional and challenging load. After his death his brother set up a fund to support and teach staff.
