The Icing on the Cake

You'll have seen them advertised - Yes Cafés. They've been popping up all over Scotland to provide a low key informal way for folk to come in, have a cup of tea and ask a few questions without having to stand up at a packed public meeting.

These iced biscuits were made by a supporter for our Yes Cafe in Comrie and it stuck me: what will we call them after independence? These are essentially Empire biscuits which themselves are already confusing because they are sometimes called German biscuits and even Belgian biscuits. I know the confusion arose because of a bit of judicious renaming after the First World War. I think I'm right in saying they were originally known as German biscuits.

Onywise, none of these names will do will they? Not after indy!! Decisions, decisions. How will we cope?
