The Great North Run 2014
It was a beautiful day in Newcastle & a fine day to join 55,000 other runners in the greatest half marathon in the world.
On the same day Mo Farah became the first British man to win the run since 1985, Jenny & I eagerly padded the 13.1 miles course with the masses in a hope to become the first one millionth finisher. We trekked through Newcastle, Gateshead, South Tyneside, finishing at the seaside in sunny South Shields.
The support from the locals, the charities, the live bands, the sponsors, & so many others lining the streets from the start to the finish, were fantastic & as ever, were such an advantage & encouragement in a tough challenge like this.
The fine mist sprays were a revelation & a complete joy on the route round. A definite highlight too was the magnificent Red Arrows flying over my & my fellow runners heads, leaving their colour trails in their wake, as we crossed the Tyne Bridge. It was brilliant.
We enjoyed the run, if Jenny will allow me to describe it as that, & we most definitely made the most of our bath and local Indian takeaway this evening. Both magnificent.
Thank you to everyone who supported us in our fundraising for Alzheimer's Society and in our preparation for the Bupa Great North Run 2014, we could not have done it without you.
Who knows, maybe we'll do it all again next year. I might be on my own with that one!
