Dreamy Orange Blur?

One of my photo magazines had instructions for creating a Dreamy Flower picture using 3 photos - 1 in focus, one behind the subject and one in front of the subject, layered in PS Elements and using masks to show/hide different bits.

I thought I'd give it a try, in this case using PS, but not sure that I have quite understood the technique, or that the composition suites, but thought I'd post it as a Wildcard/Blurred entry in TerryBob's September Technique Challenge
