The Best Laid Plans Of A Supermoon Hunter...

The supermoon was due to rise out here at 8.23pm. I logged onto The Photographer's Ephemeris found a a location and set-up the tripod, camera and a 300mm f2.8 lens. Oh yes, this was going to be an amazing picture showing a palm tree lined hill silhouetted against the rising supermoon with shimmering reflections provided by the silvery mediterranean sea. I waited, and waited......and waited. No sign of the moon. In the darkness I hadn't realised that a thick layer of cloud was sitting above the horizon. There hadn't been a cloud in the sky all day but there you go. My first glimpse of the moon came at around 8.35pm by which time my chances of a World Press Photo environmental award next year were well and truly busted.

If there is a God perhaps that's his wispy hand holding up the moon just to mock me.
