Beggar's Stile, Thieves' Moss.
This place sounds as though it was fairly disreputable in the past. Beautiful today though in the balmy, hazy light of the last hurrah of summer.
I suspect very few people truly 'know' any particular mountain. Farmers know them best probably, but then they may not graze the whole thing. Walkers know the paths and summits. But that is far from the whole. Cavers know something of the bowels of the beast, but in tiny secret portions.
I thought I 'knew' Ingleborough reasonably well. I've summited her from all directions and at all times of day and night, and in all seasons after all. But there, not even off the slightly-less-well-beaten track, was an entire vista and complexity that I had never seen or suspected before, despite having passed within 1/2km many times. It was a nice surprise. I must return with a real camera and at a better time of day when I'm not more preoccupied with running.
