A step back in time...
Today we saw the silent movie "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" with a celebrated organist doing the organ improvisation as it was done in the old days - except the organ was our magnificent concert organ in the Feathermarket Hall, and the occasion was the monthly organ society recital.
It was an amazing experience and we sat entranced at the wonderful "old fashioned acting" and the brilliant organ accompaniment.
This exerpt from the programme best describes the music...
"Zorada Temmingh (the organist) created an original leitmotiv for each character, developing and intertwining the themes as the characters appear in different situations as the drama unfolds. The colour, pitch and volume range of the organ is exploited to the full to do justice to the gripping emotion of the film."
This photo is one of Notre Dame taken on my last trip to Paris, converted to B&W and noise added to give it more old world atmosphere!
