Paradise Parking Lot

My moth eggs hatched yesterday and the velvet mite was feasting, as it has been for the past few days. The tiny caterpillars that escaped it crawled to the back of the ivy leaf and hung there in a writhing mass.

I went out early this morning to check on them and there was no sign of a single one. Velvet was still there. Being so tiny it couldn't have eaten them all.

It was a beautifully misty morning. I shot this hawkweed seedhead in our disused carpark. This short, bright yellow weed has done particularly well this year. There have been swathes of it like we get with dandelions in the spring.

The pink is a dwarf pink, Dianthus deltoides. I used to grow these from seed to sell and they have established in the poor, well-drained, sunny, car park surface. The more the rabbits nibble them the bushier they get. :) Big Yellow Taxi song in reverse.
