Referendum
We in Scotland are living through historic times right now. On the 18th of September, we will get to vote and decide whether we wish to remain a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or to strike off on our own and become an independent nation. If we were to become independent it would not be through war, bombs or bullets - but by a vote. A fact about which we should all be grateful, and deserving of respect.
The campaigning has been running for about two years now. Our national British government appears to have all-but ignored the issue, assuming that the vote would go against independence. But over the past weekend several opinion polls have put the result inside the margin of error, and we have seen a rather panicked response from senior British politicians.
As we enter the final week of campaigning the race is pretty wide open. Will the late involvement of the Westminster (London) politicians encourage the Scots to stay in the UK? Or will we decide to end this 300 year Union? Only time will tell, and on the result will depend the future of 5 million Scots and our succeeding generations.
It's going to be interesting...
