YCN Awards

Bit of a long day today. I was into town for eight to get the half eight train to London. I met up with Adam, one of our students at the dtation and we got into London for about one-ish. By the time we got to our hotel it was only half one and Adam’s room was ready but mine wasn’t going to be until two. We dumped all our stuff in his room then headed for a coffee until my room was ready.

HE was off to meet an old friend who lives down here so he headed off and I killed time with a bite to eat at the always brilliant Fernandez and Wells then the exhibition of Dennis Hopper photographs at the Royal Academy.

With all that done I had just enough time to get showered and changed into a suit then headed down to the Marriott in Grosvenor Square to meet Adam again for this year’s YCN awards dinner. Adam had won an award for his work on their Domino’s pizza brief this year, he was delighted to head down and pick it up and it was great to be able to take another student down. This was the second year in a row for our course and I think the fifth for the design team in the college as a whole. Given that our first and second year HND students are competing against third and fourth year degree students from some very prestigious art schools, not just country wide but world wide it is an amazing achievement for them.

Also in attendance was Abbie, who had won an award either two or three years ago while at the college and was back to win another one in her graduate year of her degree at Duncan of Jordanstone.

As with last year it was a great night with good presenters for the awards, great food and free flowing booze and it was great to get a chat to Rosanna from YCN and her boyfriend Michael who were at our table too.

Bedtime now though as I’m knackered.
