Tero in full attack mode

As befits a ground layer the tero (Southern lapwing, Vanellus chilensis, the only crested wader in Argentina) is very aggressive in defending its territory, and today I was mobbed ceaselessly by these, surely the noisiest of birds in Argentina. Notice the gun mounts, red bony protrusions under the wings -these are spurs and have presumably evolved to intimidate foes and fight off bigger birds, even birds of prey. Certainly I have seen teros mobbing Cinereus Harriers (Circus cinereus) here in San Martín, and have heard that they will see off even bigger raptors. Well, if they're prepared to take on a 95 Kg Englishman ...
