Day 33: All That Glitters
Traveling back in time to the 19th century, we discovered what it was like to live during the gold rush in Ballarat. The tourist attraction of Sovereign Hill brings to life a small mining town where you can explore gold mines, pan for actual gold, watch a gold pour, learn how to make candles, or even play a game of bowling with manual wooden pin-racking and an extra long alley.
The workers dress up in costume, along with children who can spend an entire week in the school and learn about the history of the Gold Rush thru hands on activities. They looked especially adorable in their period costumes. Horse drawn carriages can transport you around town, which includes an actual post office and brass smith who makes candle holders.
Makes we wonder if such a museum of today would be as fascinating 200 years from now.
