Ride & Stride
I enjoyed my moussaka last night, albeit made with beef not lamb. I'm going to make the Asian supermarket in Wolverton one of my regular stop offs after my quick visit there yesterday. What a treasure trove of exotic food and spices at great prices.
After a catch up with L who was back from Turkey, we watched a bit of Dallas and I had another early night. I woke about 6.30am though did not get up til 8 ish.
As planned after a recommendation from a friend, I went to see another early showing of an uplifting and life-affirming film calked 'the hundred foot journey', set in rural France. It made me really homesick for my spiritual home...
Then I took my turn manning the church for an hour, to welcome cyclists who are doing the annual 'Ride and Stride' in aid of church funds. I was on my own for a good half hour. I lit a candle for B and sat in the warming light of the sun streaming through the stained glass and spent the time praying, reading some favourite parts of the bible and enjoying the peace and quiet. I did feel spiritually strengthened and 'held', which is what I needed.
The vicar arrived and quietly went about preparing for this evening's confirmation service. I then saw J, who has been so kind during the last few weeks as she took over from me so we sat and had a chat and catch up, which was really nice. I must invite her and her husband for dinner one evening. Just as I was coming off duty ten cyclists (positively a peleton!) in all the gear turned up, loudly proclaiming the quality of the cake in other churches. Alas, we had nothing to offer them but a beautiful and peaceful space, a seat and some gorgeous flowers.
I'm watching a bit of rugby and will then head over to Bedford for the evening to see S.
