Escape bid
This was one of three Dusky Thorn moths in my trap this morning. It was vibrating its wings to warm up, prior to flying off into the bushes. It was a poor catch again after seeing quite a lot of activity around the trap at 10.30/11.00 last night. It was quite muggy then, but dropped quite cold later. I think some moths are being attracted to the light, but not being caught; some are escaping later; some may be being caught by clever birds at dawn. Rather than running the trap all night, I think I'll try catching moths for identification around the light until about midnight, then switch off. Also...I'm really wishing for some other Thorns, rather than lots of Dusky Thorn and the occasional Canary-shouldered!
