Not your average Saturday
The train to London was on time
the First Class service was wonderful
we had a plan to get from Euston to the Tower of London to see the poppy field
that bit went well as evidenced by the blip
from there it was on to Leicester Square - well let the fun begin - the Northern Line was out of action for scheduled repairs
so we went via all sorts of stations we should never have been near
Nice grilled goat cheese salad (with shared fries) for lunch
then Miss Saigon - really good
then Leicester Square to get to Euston without the Northern Line
The concourse was full to bursting point...we shuffled to the entrance barriers and yes both our Oyster cards needed topping up
we fought our way out of the queue ... put on some money ...shuffled our way back in the queue
So that should have been it
but someone chose tonight to walk in front of a train at Atherstone sending the West Coast line into chaos
The delay was 45 minutes which caused extra people to board the train...
We had fun fighting our way through a packed train to our carriage
Then I had a right verbal exchange with a woman who decided that she was entitled to my reserved seat on the grounds that my delayed train was her on time one!!
It was sorted amicably as the train pulled out...
but 30 minutes into our journey we had the next announcement...we have been notified of another fatality on the line so the scheduled route is now impossible but we will get you to Wolverhampton (tough luck if you want Birmingham)
Karl the First Class coach steward was wonderful diffusing problems
Anyhow...we got home 100 minutes late
I'm so tired but at least I'm alive unlike those two poor souls
