Pride

What a busy day - Tom did 16k rowing, so I did 16k riding alongside, then he went off on a 30 mile bike ride whilst I undercoated the front door. Painting the front door seemed like a good idea at the start, until I was half way through the sanding and starting to regret not just paying someone to do it.

Then came a text from Tom to say that they'd witnessed an accident. A motorcyclist had swerved and catapulted off his bike in front of them with the bike landing on top of him. Along with a passing motorist the boys called an ambulance and carefully lifted the bike off the injured man, staying with him until the paramedic arrived. They were a bit shocked, especially as he had drifted in and out of consciousness and there was rather a lot of blood, but I'm very proud of how calmly they helped him and made sure he was alright until help arrived.

Later Heather and I went up to the Jericho Cafe to meet Sarah who's fresh back from Iraq and needed some light relief before she returns there. We went to see Pride with some other friends which was great fun and had lots of 1980s nostalgia music. I hadn't realised that in recognition of the support the lesbian and gay community gave the miners that they led the gay pride march in 1985.

In the pub after the film we started again the discussion about setting up some kind of co-living once all the kids have flown the nest. Turf roofs, communal, but not too communal, community electric cars, home workers spaces…. lots of ideas!
