Pontypridd 38 - 7 Neath
And so the season begins properly ...
And it was business as usual for Ponty. We kind of carried on where we left off last season. After just ten minutes we were two tries to the good, and Neath looked like they had very little to offer. In fairness to Neath, with all their off field woes of recent times, for them simply to fielding a team is a relief in itself!
We then decided to get a bit cute and try and play barbarians style rugby in the shadow of our own posts, and lost control of the game for a while, and Neath got a try back, but from that point it was one way traffic, and only some last ditch scrambled defence saved the score from becoming embarrassing.
At this early stage of the season I am already finding it hard to see who is going to beat us at home. We have blown Cardiff and Neath away, and we are not even functioning at 100% yet. The lineout is still a mess, and we are a bit too frantic for own good at times. It is clearly an all out tilt at the BIC Cup this year, and if we can iron out the problem areas there is no reason why we can't get to the final this year. Our second half performance against London Welsh showed we could live with the big boys.
Come On The Pont!
