Honey fungus
Honey fungus is very damaging to many plants and trees. But the damage is done under ground where it attacks roots and when it spreads under tree bark. Gardeners hate it and it can be very hard to get rid of it.
In the Autumn the growth above ground appears. This is what we all see. It grows very fast. This example is in Ashmeadow Woods, Arnside where we have lots of it at the moment.
