Saltwell park

We had lots planned today as part of heritage weekend. I had booked a trip down the Victorian tunnels, a tour of the cathedral and up the tower and then a tour of the guildhall. Unfortunately my grandpa was admitted to hospital overnight and I was waiting to hear about his treatment and if he was going to be okay, so didn't want to go on the tour and be uncontactable.
My mam and brother came round to visit and to talk about what had happened at the hospital. Thankfully he's stable and hopefully it won't be a long admission.

We went to Saltwell park in Gateshead to get some fresh air. It is a beautiful Victorian park opened in 1876 and covers 55 acres of land. This is a blip of Saltwell towers which is the former mansion of the owner. After he sold it to Gateshead council, the park became known as the peoples park. In the foreground is an angel memorial to the south African war. I used to love visiting here when I was a child to visit the lake and to see the animals. It looked more like autumn today with grey skies and bronze leaves on the ground. Afterwards, we popped to town to fenwicks to buy my nanna a birthday present and then returned home to have cheese fondue for dinner.
