Grass Snake
Another day down at Petworth, this time to see the house and the park from the other side.
On arrival, the sun was shining and there was a veritable bonanza of fungi to be found. Having spotted a huge clump of Giant Polypore, I was leading the way to photograph it when a woman called out, snake. Well that made our day!
The morning was bright but cool so the grass snake was slithering very slowly and posed for us and others that saw what we had found to photograph. I felt a little sorry for it as our few minutes were the start of a half hour ordeal for the creature.
Had I gone alone I would have stayed hours amongst the paintings and sculptures. The galleries were all I had expected and more. Bright as a button, way beyond his six years, a child that was with us was, unsurprisingly, disinterested in Turners and possibly a little disturbed by the violence portrayed in some of the statues. Soon we hurried through to let him search for toys in the gift shop.
There was just time to take a walk down to the lake, passing through the scenes that Turner painted . The deer were, unfortunately, on the other side of the water so we didn't get up close but sat a while watching the waterfowl and enjoying the views.
Back home, a few chores, walk the dogs and a couple of back blips. Now my bed calls. Why can a day not have more hours?
