Ghost keeping
Day 13 of the September Song Challenge, day 2 of our study mates' reunion weekend in Maastricht.
How to combine these two best ? Well, one of the songs on the list to use for this challenge is The Dalesman's Litany by Tim Hart & Maddy Prior, which is "A countryman's view of working in Yorkshire's manufacturing towns. The Dales are the valley running through the hill country north of the Yorkshire industrial region" and many industries there were related to textiles.
See here an installation of a sewing workshop, minutely detailed and totally produced in wood, including cables. Intriguing and confusing :-)
The installation is called Ghost Keeping by István Csákány and it was one of the 5 art pieces in the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht which 4 of us looked at and talked about together on Saturday afternoon as part of the reunion weekend activities. Using the Art inquiry method (looking at the art work , then letting each person express one thing that they have observed about it, without looking at the labels /explanations) ! Quite a feat for 4 straight-laced techie engineers ;-)
If you want to know a bit more about this art installation, see here.
We had a great time yesterday, starting with a short biking tour of Maastricht to the St Pietersberg, where we had a guided tour inside the marl caves, then lunch, then were divided into 3 groups doing various arty activities, then a wonderful dinner in Le Petit Bonheur, which I can certainly recommend, what a great dinner.
Thanks very much for your comments on Friday's ceiling Blip, and my apologies for the lack of comments. I will try to catch up as soon as possible
