Roebling Suspension Bridge
This bridge links Cincinnati across the Ohio River to Covington, Kentucky. The City was formed in 1788, named by a group of Revolutionary War admirers of the Roman general Cincinnatus, who saved Rome in 458BC and then returned to his small farm, refusing to accept any reward.
Tens of thousands of German immigrants arrived in the 1830s. Purely in the interest of historical research, I had a couple of beers at the Moerlein homebrew pub after inspecting the equipment and spotting at least one actual German. I understand that Cincinnati has a very successful Oktoberfest, in September.
The pleasant walkway along the Ohio River takes in a number of attractive bridges, such as the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge, the pedestrians and cyclists only Purple People Bridge and the Taylor Southgate Bridge.
I am pleased to say we were able to enjoy the fountains by the Great American Ballpark, home of the Cincinnati Reds, the country's first professional baseball team, as we did not fall foul of any of the Fountain Rules.
