THE NEW HISTORY

This is a full size plaster macquette,
of Alexander Stoddart's sculpture,
installed on the exterior of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh in 2013. The exterior figure is in cast aluminium and depicts the muse Clio, daughter of Zeus. The new sculpture sits on the apex of the entrance to the restored Gallery
and replaces the original figure of History,
by the sculptor William Birnie Rhind,
which weathered beyond repair and was removed.
Stoddart is currently working on a monument to the 19th century architect,
William Henry Playfair,
for outside the National Museum of Scotland.
