Ordinary time
Today was ordinary and I like ordinary.
I recall after the first big quake in September 2010 wishing for ordinary. I gained a completely different appreciation for the things in life I took for granted.
Nothing broke, nothing leaked, no one damaged any part of my home, nothing shook and no one tried to kill me on my bike.
I just did all the ordinary things and it was good :-)
Biking home I stopped in Riccarton Bush to enjoy the zing of new green leaves and the play of light on the water. I even spotted my mate the trout who I thought had gone feeding. He didn't like my highviz vest and disappeared.
I used to tell Mum if I spotted him on my way to work. She'd ask if I was going to catch him. I'd tell her no. Some places you don't fish and this fella is a decent size and he's earned the right to survive.
I still told Mum I'd seen my mate the trout. I think she smiled.
