Art odyssey

We drove off on an art odyssey today - our first stop was the beautiful walled medieval village of St Paul de Vence where we had lunch at Le Tilleul - on the ramparts under the shade of an ancient Linden tree.

It was just starting to rain as we pulled into the Fondation Maeght, the region's finest art museum, according to Lonely Planet. We spent a happy hour there amongst Miros, Braques and early Derains.

Then we picked our way through Vence for the real goal of our trip: Chapelle du Rosaire, the culmination of Henri Matisse's artistic career. These are the stained glass windows behind the altar: a photo snatched behind the guide's back as photography was strictly forbidden!

Back through Grasse with a quick stop at the Fragonard factory to sample the perfumes then home...
