The Golden Carriage arrives
Prinsjesdag - or Prince's day in English - is traditionally held on the third tuesday of September ever since 1814, exactly 200 years ago.
It's the day the reigning monarch of the Netherlands addresses a joint session of the Dutch Senate and House of Representatives in the Ridderzaal / Hall of Knights.
Here he reads 'The Speech of the Throne' out loud and sets out the main features of the Governments policy for the coming year.
He arrives - and leaves - the Hall of Knights with a tour through The Hague in the 'Golden Carriage' which you can see arriving in this picture.
The fun thing is I made this picture a bit earlier on as public like me aren't allowed on the inner court of the Houses of Parliament today, so....
How did I do it?
Well there is a park in The Hague called Madurodam, which is a scale replica of Hollands most important landmarks and I knew they had exactly this scene on display there.
If you look good you can see the scale by the giants walking in the backdrop.
Thank you Madurodam, for your kind assistance.
Tip: If you ever visit the Netherlands this is a great place to start as you get the best overview of what Holland has to offer in small. I often do it with visitors from abroad and then ask them which item they would love to visit in full scale.
ps. Here is last years 'Golden Coach' entry
