Lemon Avon

The confluence of the rivers Leam and Avon, Warwickshire.

The day was so different to the weekend. Drew the curtains back and was stunned to discover it had been raining. The clouds were draped in wall to wall blankets, low and heavy to bursting, testimony to a protracted midnight feast. And so it stayed that way. Not cold, but dull. It would be the first evening since summer began that I had driven home with headlamps on.

Too busy to get away at lunch, and with the coming evening out, the subject of the after work blip had to be near to hand. I threw the wellies on, ditched the tie, and pushed through the grass past the maisonettes to an angler's perch where Avon swallows Leam. In this picture, the Leam ends at the reflected willow, with Avon charging in from the left.

The evening out was the first match of the Coventry Nine Pin Skittles League 2014/15 season. Was good to see the rest of the Hotshots crew after about 14 weeks lay-off. There was the usual holiday destination enquiries and it turns out that Steve H and I were both in Sorrento on 9 August. With so many weeks since I last swung my arm at a set of skittles, that a shot might pop out and head off in some comical direction was bothering me. But I'm glad to say there was none of that. We took on the Underdogs and the Underdogs lost. So a maximum 3 points to the Hotshots with moi-même top scorer.
