Wicklow Way

Took a drive around Roundwood and the Wicklow Way today for some photos with a fellow blipper. Very sunny so photos difficult in the bright light.

Took a well earned break for a picnic at the lead mines which is both a majestic and poignant site. The most successful areas of mining in the Wicklow Mountains were in the valleys of Glendalough and Glendasan. The vein of metal ore known as the Luganure Vein ran through Camaderry Mountain which separates both valleys. In 1798, Thomas Weaver, an engineer working on the development of the Military Road, discovered lead in the hills above Glendasan Valley. By 1809 mining had begun and the first vein to be exploited was Luganure, situated high up on the slopes of Camaderry Mountain. In 1820, when the mine had ceased to be profitable, it was closed and sold...
Had champagne and strawberries as one does on a Tuesday along with a variety of traditional Irish picnic delicacies. The views were amazing, the weather fabulous, the company excellent.....Retirement not as tough as I though it would be....just saying
