1001 challenge; (crossing) water
It’s amazing what idle hands can do with a credit card and the internet. In less than an hour I have booked the following:
return flights to Perth from the UK
an internal flight from Perth to Sydney
accommodation in Sydney
train tickets from Sydney to Melbourne
accommodation in Melbourne
a flight from Melbourne to Perth
We’re going to visit Anniemay’s sister, Mollymay (also of this parish), who lives in Perth, next March.
There’s a slight nervousness added to our excitement; I have another 6-monthly scan at the end of October and we usually wait till we get the results before making big plans. But…. there was a really good deal on the flights to Perth which had to be completed today and once I’d started moving the mouse, the whole trip just fell into place.
We’re staying in the Sydney Harbour YHA. It offers en-suite accommodation for couples as well as the more traditional dormitories for backpackers. It’s located between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House - and considerably cheaper than a hotel.
My mouse and I also discovered that train journeys in Australia are a lot cheaper than in the UK. It’s about the only thing that is and is not to be sniffed at. So we have a leisurely journey for some 700 miles (in First Class) for the same price as a Standard single from London to Birmingham.
As well as our excursion to Sydney and Melbourne, we’re taking a road trip with Mollymay and her husband Glyn. Glyn used to be a Ranger and he’s on first name terms with Skippy. He wants us to see “the bush”. It must be a pretty special one, because it takes a few days to get there.
I guess we’ll blip this bush and all the other amazing sights along the way. In the meantime here’s a map to be going on with. It was a bit wrinkly so Anniemay ironed it for me.
