Traquair House with Frieda
SO much to write, so little time! But I will do my best to give you a taste of my day with Frieda, Art Quilter on blip.
After successfully catching up on my far too little sleep from travelling from the USA to Scotland, Frieda woke me with a cheery "good morning" and a cup of tea :) So nice! Frieda & her husband are the most gracious hosts. We had breakfast, chatted, checked blip and headed off to Traquair House, Scotland's Oldest inhabited house. The drives to and from both Traquair today and Dawyck yesterday have been most interesting and beautiful with narrow roads, fields and more fields of cows and sheep, villages with old stone houses, and gorgeous rolling hills!
Traquair House is full of history and many old artifacts which you can view. The house was first built inn 1107 and the descendants still live there, but it is open to the public. Besides the rooms of the house with the interesting stone staircase, there are gardens, goats & chickens, a brewery and a shrubbery maze which I told Frieda reminded me of Harry Potter! There was also a special exhibit in one of the 1690 pavilions behind the house of a mixed media triptych painting by South African painter Peter Sacks.
The triptych is what you see Frieda standing in front of, photographing a detail of the piece. It was a very exciting mix of paper and fabric and paint and paper, even actual samples he was given to work with from Traquair house. The piece is filled with Scottish history. Frieda and I were able to go over to the other pavilon across the terrace and watch some videos that were interviews with the artist. Lots of details about the history literally woven into the piece and about his process. It was very special for both of us that such a relevant art exhibit that both of us would enjoy so much was being shown at the Traquair House. And I got to learn a bit more about Scotland's history. You can view a large detail of this triptych on Frieda's blip HERE.
Lovely to spend this time together, I still cannot believe it even as it is happening!!! Tomorrow the Jupiter sculpture garden is on the list!
